The island's elite

The army

A dwelling of level 8 or more trains a third, elite kind of its tier: hired only on your own island.

  1. Seven elites, one per tier: Bosuns (deckhands), Sea grenadiers (marines), Deadeyes (musketeers), Mortar crews (gunners), Corsair blades (boarders), the Admiral's guard (guards) and Horrors of the deep (the drowned).

  2. Raise the dwelling to level 8 and come to your island: the elite have their own row under the dwelling in the hire window. They are never sold in a port, at a waystation or by the island's boats.

  3. Their own pool: half the dwelling's weekly growth, at least one a week. They cost about 1.6 times the upgraded kind, less the dwelling's share off (−10 % at level 8, −20 % at 10), and fight worth every coin.

  4. Each brings a craft: bosuns never lose their nerve; grenadiers stand behind shields and their splinters hit the foe beside; deadeyes shoot at any range and every fourth shot pins a stack; mortar crews lob over heads at full harm.

  5. Corsair blades strike twice unanswered and bring luck to the whole crew; the Admiral's guard is a wall of shields that answers every blow; the Horrors of the deep sweep the deck and freeze the living. Horrors, like the drowned, serve only the Choir and cursed ships.
